ANCHOR AWAY!

An unusual opportunity has just come to Anchor Academy’s grade 7 through 12 student body. Although our school name was added to the waiting list two years ago, it seemed highly unlikely that we would be invited to board one of S.A.L.T.S.’s (Sail and Life Training Society) tall ships. But it’s happening.

Just imagine, five days of high adventure aboard the Pacific Grace sailing through Desolation Sound, viewing the Gulf Islands, becoming part of the Pacific ecology in a way you could never have thought possible. So here it is!

Vessel name: Pacific Grace

Dates: From 1030 hours on March 23, 2009 to 1530 hours on March 27, 2009.
Who: grades 7 - 12 students either registered or enrolled with Anchor Academy, on a first come, first served basis. (Final decision at principal’s discretion.)
Costs: $634 per trainee plus GST (includes meals); 35% deposit already paid by Anchor Academy, including GST; 65% payable by student/family in two installments.

See the Application Form for up to another 15% discount through Honour Roll achievement by your son or daughter!

In order to minimize additional costs, accepted students will be invited to meet the Anchor bus between Salmon Arm and the lower mainland, scheduled to arrive at Victoria’s inner harbour in time to board the Pacific Grace on March 23. A corresponding bus route will return students after disembarking on March 27.

The Pacific Grace sleeps 15 in the fo’c’s’le and 16 in the hold: therefore the genders will be divided accordingly. Two of the 31 total will be adults - one male, one female for whom there will be no charge. High school teacher, Lana Gotzy, has volunteered as our girls’ representative. We need a boys’ representative preferably a licensed bus driver willing to drive Anchor’s bus to and from Victoria.

The 2009 S.A.L.T.S. Group Participant Registration form can be found at www.salts.ca/sail2009.html. Both students and leaders will need to complete this registration form. Once the form is completed they will be sent automatically to a ‘Trip Suitcase’ webpage where they will be able to download and print their consent/waiver form, a gear list, and a copy of the Sailor’s Handbook. The Minor Consent form must be signed by the parent or guardian of every underage trainee and the Adult Waiver forms must be signed by each adult accompanying the trainees. All forms must be presented to the Ship’s Master at the time of boarding. (It is usually best for the trip leader to collect these consent/waiver forms prior to the trip.) Please contact us if you have any questions about the online registration process.

WELCOME HOME GUATEMALA TEAM!

God will meet you wherever you are! The team of 8 students and 4 adults who made up this year’s Guatemala STM know that
statement is true. For 3 weeks the city of Chimatenango, Guatemala was our home. We were warmly welcomed by the Chimaltenango
Bible Seminary where we were based and did our ministry from. We joined with local Pastor Natanial Comez to serve the people in Chimaltenango and surrounding area.

Once again we were challenged by the needs of the impoverished in this country and stretched out of our comfort zones to
engage in ministry. As each one their part,
God met us -wherever we were! PDF Article

ANCHOR OFFICE CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE - December 2008

Anchor Academy office has expanded into its new quarters, including an attractive entranceway off Hurst Road.

HATS OFF TO OUR GRADS - October 2008

“Well done for an excellent finish!” are the words of our principal to six more high school graduates who received their diplomas over the last month. Even under the best of circumstances, young people today face many challenges in order to complete their high school studies. The “common denominator” of each of Anchor’s grads can be summed up in one word - PERSEVERANCE ! Hats off to:

Nathaniel Andrews, Gibsons, BC International College-Preparatory program
Joshua Bacchus, International Vocational program
Lori Driedger, Chilliwack, BC Dogwood, Adult Grad program
Crystal Hart, Armstrong, BC International Vocational program
Whitney Lepp, Pritchard, BC Dogwood, 1995 program
Sarah Stanley, Cawston, BC Dogwood Honours, 1995 program

Young people, be encouraged. Our Lord has a unique plan for each of you. The staff at Anchor are praying that you will experience the thrill of finding and fulfilling His divine plan as you enter the next phase of life. Bless you!

2008 GRAD - July 2008

Lots of photos were taken at Anchor’s 2008 Graduation. The 14 attending grads were a photogenic group in their traditional caps and gowns. Many comments were heard describing this memorable event such as “ I wouldn’t have missed this for anything”, “There was so much bonding”, and “I’m so glad I came!”

We’re excited to honour three more young people who have received their high school graduation diplomas in the last month. These most recent ones have each earned an International General Program diploma with very commendable averages. Congratulations go to:

Christina Madle, Kelowna, BC 92%
Daniel Petkau, Prince George, BC 93%
Samuel Petkau, Prince George, BC 96%

May the Lord guide and bless each and every Anchor graduate!

One of the highlights of Anchor’s graduation celebrations is the announcement of post-secondary institution bursaries to assist our grads with their Christian college tuition costs. Many of you are aware that last year a new bursary fund was created in honour of Eileen Hunt who passed away June 3, 2007. The Eileen M. Hunt Memorial Bursary Fund was established to encourage unselfish young people who either have personal challenges or have a heart to serve others in need. Again this year, Anchor’s Education Committee was asked to select the recipient for this $5000 bursary.

After careful deliberation, the Committee unanimously agreed to combine a regular $2000 P.S.I. bursary with the Eileen Hunt bursary to create two bursaries of $3500 each for two Anchor grads, both of whom have displayed an unselfish heart to help others in need. It is a pleasure to bless Christina Madle, Kelowna, BC and Amanda Rajtschan, Westbank, BC, both of whom plan to enter Oklahoma Baptist College this fall. Congratulations to these two young ladies.

As well, a $2000 bursary was issued to Sheldon Andres of Grindrod, BC to assist with costs to attend New Tribes Mission Bible School in Jackson, Michigan. Sheldon has been made aware that this is a renewable bursary, meaning that he may reapply year by year as he continues his studies at NTM Bible School.

Please note: Anchor Academy bursaries are valid for 18 months from date of issue. Therefore, high school grads should apply by April 30 of their graduation year, even if they plan to work for a year before attending Christian college.
