Grade 2 DL Course Descriptons

DL Standard

  • English Language Arts 2 (ELA2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials: ( Word Building - 12 PACEs 1013 - 1024, English - 12 PACEs 1013 - 1024, Creative Writing (optional) - 12 PACEs 1013 - 1024). PACE work builds confidence in language skills: spelling, reading, writing, comprehension, grammar, and punctuation. The course also includes other teaching strategies that enhance the program: skill wheels, flashcards, language games, letter writing, reading log, journaling (integrated with Social Studies 2 course) and poetry (integrated with Visual Arts 2 course).

OR

  • English Language Arts 2 (ELA2 Essentials)
    Unit studies as listed above, but not including the Creative Writing option.
  • Math 2 (MA2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1013 - 1024). The course concludes with a BC Math 2 workbook (15 pages) which ensures all Learning Outcomes are offered. The PACE work includes counting to 500, place value to the 100's, addition and subtraction of three digits, carrying and borrowing, ordinal numbers, counting by 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's, word problems, patterns with shapes, number introduction to multiplicaton. The course also includes hands on activities and corresponding BC Math worksheets to ensure that all the Learning Outcomes are offered. The hands on activities include math games, “real life” math activities and math Art. They will explore fractions, 3-D shapes, numerical patterns, symmetry, sorting, classifying and graphing.
  • Science 2 (SC2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1013-1024, PACEs 1022, 1023, 1024 are optional). PACE work guides learners through God’s pre-existence, creation, seasons, weather, fish, birds, tame animals, mammals, insects, reptiles, and senses. The course also includes hands-on activities that correspond with the pace material and cover topics on solids, liquids and gases and animal habitats. The hands-on activities consist of experiments requiring the use of the scientific method and two lap book assignments.
  • Social Studies 2 (SS2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1013-1024, PACEs 1018, & 1022 are optional ). Topics include, friends, camping, trust, farms, serving God, community, worship, tithing, church, school, maps, fruits, Spain and Canada. “The Kids Book of Canada” and various Canadian mapping worksheets accompany this course making it compatible with the BC Educational Plan. The course also includes extension activities that correspond with the pace material and cover Canadian topics. Journaling is encouraged throughout the course and quality library references are given to enhance the activities.
  • Animal Science 2 (AnSC2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1013-1024). This is an elective course.
  • Bible Reading 2 (BR2)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1013-1024). This is an elective course.
  • Physical Education 2 (PE2)
    Individual and partner game suggestions are provided.
  • Visual Arts 2 (VA2)
    The course consists of 12 Art activities that integrate with the Science and Math paces. Examples of various art techniques are provided as well as a piece of poetry that relates to each sample of art. Various mediums and methods are encouraged.
  • Health & Career Education (HCE2)

Courses may be either self-designed or teacher developed. In self-designed courses parents collaborate with the teacher to select resources, refine individual goals, and select assessment strategies that meet the Provincial Learning Outcomes for Grade 2. Parents interested in teacher-developed courses may contact the individual teachers for information on courses currently available.
