Grade 3 DL Course Descriptons

DL Standard

  • English Language Arts 3  (ELA3)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials: English (12 PACEs - 1025-1036), plus Creative Writing (12 PACEs - 1025-1036).  Quizzes, discussions, creative writing and book reports using the course outlines  “God’s Gift of Language” (writing skills), “Story Fun” (read/discuss types of stories) and “Writer’s Log” (journaling, etc.).  Word Building unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1025-1036) will be used as well.  The course also includes other teaching strategies that enhance the program: skill wheels, flashcards, language games, letter writing, reading log, book creation, journaling (integrated with Social Studies 3 course) and poetry (integrated with Visual Arts 3 course).
  • Math 3  (MA3)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (any gap PACEs, plus 12 PACEs - 1025-1036), plus extra assignments.  The course also includes hands-on activities and corresponding BC Math worksheets to ensure that all the Learning Outcomes are offered.  The hands-on activities include math games, “real life” math activities and math Art.  They will explore patterns and relationships, metric measurement, Canadian money, chance and probability.
  • Science 3  (SC3)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1025-1036).  Course content: plant growth and changes, architect - shapes, strength, and stability, stars and planets - movements, seasonal.  The course also includes hands-on activities that correspond with the pace material covering topics on structures and materials, constellations and the solar system and plant growth and change. The hands-on activities consist of experiments requiring the use of the scientific method and two lap book assignments.(DL)
  • Social Studies 3  (SS3)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1025-1036).  Course content: map work, reports - written and oral, historical development of BC communities - resources, interdependence, local government.  The course also includes extension activities that correspond with the pace material and cover topics focused around British Columbia.  Journaling is encouraged throughout the course and quality library references are given to enhance the activities.
  • Bible Reading 3  (BR3)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1025-1036). This is an elective course with readings from the Gospel of Matthew.
  • Keyboarding  3  (COMP3)
    Contact teacher for information.
  • Physical Education 3  (PE3)
    Record hours of physical education (requirements which may be met at home or in the district).  Importance of warm-up/cool-down, positive attitude, physical fitness, motor abilities, use of community facilities, and safety procedures (playground/indoor safety, fire drills, natural disasters).  Individual and partner game suggestions are provided.
  • Fine Arts 3  (FNA3)
    Description:
  • Visual Arts 3  (VA3)
    The course consists of 12 Art activities that integrate with the Science and Math paces.  Examples of various art techniques are provided as well as a piece of poetry that relates to each sample of art.  Various mediums and methods are encouraged.
  • Health & Career Education 3 (HCE3)

DL Individualized

Courses may be either self-designed or teacher developed.  In self-designed courses parents collaborate with the teacher to select resources, refine individual goals, and select assessment strategies that meet the Provincial Learning Outcomes for Grade 3.  Parents interested in teacher-developed courses may contact the individual teachers for information on courses currently available.
