Grade 4 DL Course Descriptions

DL Standard

  • English Language Arts 4  (ELA4)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials: 12 English PACEs (Evaluation through quizzes, discussions, creative writing and book reports. Forms of poetry, plays and other writings using Canadian authors are also used.  Emphasis on improving writing skills, proof reading (spelling, improving vocabulary, sentences and proper vocabulary).  Keyboarding skills are encouraged at this time).  Literature/Creative Writing (10 PACEs),  6 books (The Little Green Frog, Saved at Sea, Ace and Christi-The Red Rag Riddle, Charlotte’s Web, Children’s Missionary Library and A Canadian Novel ).  Every two PACEs relate to a corresponding novel.  These colourful PACEs have fill-in-the-blanks, mazes, drawing projects, writing projects, reading comprehension (asking the 5 W’s)  - all geared to encourage the pastime of reading for life. Also, 12 Word Building PACEs. 
  • Mathematics 4  (MA4)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (any gap PACEs plus 12 PACEs - 1037-48), plus extra assignments.  Course contents include manipulative internet mathematics, money, fractions, estimations, mathematical relationship (grids, tables, charts),  symmetry, patterns, measurement, and time (decades, centuries, millenniums).
  • Science 4  (SC4)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1037-1048). Course content includes processes and skills of science, habitats and communities, sound, light, weather. 
  • Social Studies 4  (SS4)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1037-1048).  Course content includes problem solving, record information from different sources, written and oral reports, map work.
  • Bible Reading 4  (BR4)
    Unit studies using Accelerated Christian Education materials (12 PACEs - 1037-1048).  An elective course with readings from the Gospels of Mark and Luke.
  • Keyboarding 4  (COMP4)
    Contact teacher for information. 
  • Fine Arts 4  (FNA4)
    Art projects may be assigned; contact teacher for course content. 
  • Physical Education 4  (PE4)
    Record activities and hours on PE time sheet.  Requirements may be met either at home or in the district (at least two 60 minute periods weekly).  Course outline includes importance of warm-up/cool-down, positive attitude, physical fitness, motor abilities, use of community facilities (water safety, skating, skiing, etc.), gymnastics, playground/indoor safety procedures and natural disaster preparedness.

DL Individualized

Courses may be either self-designed or teacher developed.  In self-designed courses parents collaborate with the teacher to select resources, refine individual goals, and select assessment strategies that meet the Provincial Learning Outcomes for Grade 4.  Parents interested in teacher-developed courses may contact the individual teachers for information on courses currently available.
