Communication Descriptions
The BC Ministry of Education requires that teachers have weekly 2-way communication with registered home schooling families. The type of communication is not specified which allows for families and teachers to be a little creative in this area.
Below is an outline of the types of communications that I would like to use during this school year. On the subsequent pages you will find a year calendar outlining the dates when each communication will occur. It may look a little intimidating at first, but it is quite repetitive. I will refer to the example of the October communication calendar to help explain the types of communication

E-mail from Mrs. Hunt (Oct. 1, 15, 29) – This is a one-way communication of e-mailing you, the parent, with a variety of information. These e-mails often include teaching ideas, neat website finds, a seasonal activity, inspiration from other homeschoolers, etc. For families who do not have access to Internet, I will be calling you by phone to relate the information from each e-mail.
Communication Template (Oct. 9 and 22) – This is a two-way communication of e-mailing. The parent receives a template from myself listing your child’s paces and supplement activities. You then forward the e-mail back to me and indicate with an asterisk * the paces or supplement activities that your child has completed during the past two weeks. There is also a comment area for you to add prayer requests and additional learning experiences. For families who don’t have access to Internet, I will be calling you by phone so that you can communicate your child’s learning.
Student Conference Call (Oct. 26) – This is an opportunity for students to interact with other home schooling children in a conference call setting. I will be scheduling conference calls periodically throughout the year and will notify you in advance of the dates and times. When scheduled, our conference call times will begin at 10:30 Friday mornings. The focus of the conference calls will be on Language type activities such as storytelling and story retelling, dramatic reading, poetry and story creations, chants, songs, etc. All of the curriculum that I use during the conference calls will be biblical and parents are welcome to listen in on the conference calls. I believe that the conference calls can be a very valuable experience for your child. They are open to all students from Kindergarten to Grade 3. Conference calls are optional for Kindergarten and Grade 1 students but are strongly recommended for Grade 2 and 3 students. The number to call to connect to the conference call is 1.877.385.4099. You will need to enter the following code once connected to the operator: 32553#.
Student Communication with Mrs. Hunt (Oct. 15-19) – Each month I will be having individual communication with each student. This communication is very important in helping me to assess your child. There are three types of communications that we will rotate through during the year:
Phone calls to student: October, January, April
E-mails to and from students: November, February, May
Mail from students: December, March, June
This is a fun way for students to get to know me better and for me to get to know them better. It also covers a lot of Language Arts learning outcomes that don’t necessarily get covered through the paces!
I am looking forward to communicating with each family this year. I hope that the communication methods outlined above will prove to be enjoyable and will blend into your family’s routine easily.
