Distributed Learning (DL) Programs (Funded by the B.C. Ministry of Education)
Standard Program
Anchor's DL Standard (DLS) Program places the student under the direction of a certified teacher who has prepared everything needed for the student's school year: the courses, the curriculum, the Student Learning Plan (SLP), and the plan for assessment. The student belongs to a province-wide "class" of other students in the same grade and they all do the same thing. The school year is divided into quarters.
Individualized Program
Anchor's DL Individualized (D.L.I.) Program allows parents the opportunity to make some choices about curriculum and implementation. In consultation with the parent, a certified teacher prepares a Student Learning Plan for the student, then oversees its implementation and assesses student work. The student does not belong to a "class", as such but is given some opportunities to communicate with other students.
This program will appeal to those howe shcooling families who appreciate the freedom of choosing their own curriculum.
B.C. parents and students enrolled in D.L. Individualized (D.L.I.) will start with an interview with their teacher to decide course choice and curriculum needs. Teachers often request a general timeline of when certain chapters or units of work will be covered. Information indicating strategies and evaluation methods will also be important to share with your teacher. Together you and the teacher will have the freedom to create a unique Student Learning Plan that suits the academic needs of your family while meeting the Provincial Learning Outcomes required by the Ministry of Education.
Students are welcome to contact the teacher as frequently as necessary during specified school hours. The Ministry of Education expects a minimum of a weekly student/teacher contact.
You will be required to submit three or four student portfolios. Items to be included in the portfolio will be specified by your teacher with ample time to comply.
