Nov. 7th is the end of first term therefore portfolios are requested on but not before this date. (This means you don't need to get the portfolio to me by Nov. 7, just try to send by that date).  Here are some suggestions regarding what to include in the portfolio.

Portfolio recommendations (I do not expect all these samples but providing some variety in samples would help me make more accurate assessments - choose which samples you can provide):


4 Language Arts samples:
 i.e. test, quiz, workbook pages, journaling, dictations, written narration, pictures or electronic recording of oral presentations made, *
informational writing sample for Grade 1 and above (ex. makes lists, charts (webs), writes directions, written brainstorming, etc.. - for Gr. 5 this information should be in paragraph form and should be more of a persuasive argument, or narrative communicating about a topic of interest - see PLO template B for first term), reading log, recorded reading - if your child won't be reading to me over the phone, etc...
*The PLO communication template B for 1st term will ask about informational writing therefore this is why I am requesting a sample of this type of writing.  Please feel free to include any other type of writing sample if available. ie. letters, book reports, poetry, stories, research, creative writing (descriptive paragraphs, dialogues, etc..) Gr. K is exempt for this request and Gr. 1 can accomplish writing by copying the parent's printing or dictating to the parent what they want to write - parent writes for the child)

4 Math samples

i.e. test, quiz, math drill, worksheets, graphing or data collection, a list of or pictures of Math in daily life (ex. playing battle ship, cooking, quilting, etc...)

2-4 Science samples  (if studying this subject this term)
i.e. test, quiz, experiment log, observation journal, workbook pages, narrations, diagrams, drawings, pictures of crafts or projects that relate to this subject, list of topics discussed, DVDs watched or field trips taken, etc..
* if using my course design please send in the requested samples for term 1.

2-4 Social Studies samples (if studying this subject this term)
i.e. test, quiz, project, mapping, report, journal, diagrams, drawings, pictures of crafts or projects that relate to this subject, narrations, list of topics discussed, DVDs watched or field trips taken, etc...

1-3 Visual Art samples(optional for those taking music lessons or dance) -  any 2-D or 3-D work of art is acceptable - if possible take pictures of 3-D art and send along with portfolio

Dance & Music evaluations - in the past I have asked for an evaluation to be filled out by your teacher for the first portfolio.  This year I am giving you the option of doing it now or in February for the 2nd portfolio.  If you'd like to submit one now please print the dance or music evaluation form that corresponds to your child's grade level. Take this form to your child's next dance or music lesson and ask the teacher to fill it out.  Then submit it with the rest of your portfolio samples. If you do not submit a form I will postpone dance and music evaluations until term 2 and 3.  If possible you may also submit an electronic recording of you child performing music or dancing.

*On this form be sure to indicate if your child completed the Anchor scripture memory for the term.
